The Future of Farming in the Kalahari Basin is Being Defined Right Now.

The Stampriet Aquifer is the essential, life-giving vein that sustains agricultural productivity, communities, and livelihoods across the vast Stampriet Aquifer Basin. This irreplaceable resource faces an existential threat from the proposed In-Situ Leach (ISL) uranium mining project.

Visualizing the scale: This map illustrates the vast Orange-Senqu River Basin, highlighting the locations of the Stampriet Transboundary Aquifer System (STAS) and the Karoo-Sedimentary Transboundary Aquifer (KSTA). It underscores that water security in the Kalahari is a shared, international responsibility, not just a national issue.

To ensure that the immense economic and social risks associated with potential contamination are officially and independently recognized by decision-makers, the Stampriet Aquifer Uranium Mining Association (SAUMA) has commissioned a critical, independent assessment.

Independent and Confidential Assessment by Cirrus Survey Warehouse

We urge all farm owners operating anywhere in the Stampriet Aquifer Basin to urgently participate in this confidential assessment conducted by the reputable Cirrus Survey Warehouse.

This survey is your primary opportunity to formally quantify two vital factors:

  1. Your Farm's Current Economic Contribution.

  2. The potential catastrophic impact that partial or complete contamination, resulting from ISL mining, would have on your assets, operational viability and long-term economic future.

Sheep with black heads graze in a sunlit, dry grassland with scattered trees and a clear blue sky. The scene feels calm and serene.
The backbone of Kalahari farming: Healthy Dorper Sheep operations, sustained entirely by the pristine groundwater of the Stampriet Aquifer. The productivity of every animal, and the viability of the entire precision farming model, is directly dependent on protecting this resource from contamination. Your economic contribution must be counted.

Your Input is Valuable and Protected (Confidentiality Guaranteed)

Your participation is extremely valuable in understanding the total economic activity reliant on the aquifer. As confirmed by the assessors, your input is protected:

  • Confidentiality: Responses will NOT be linked to your identity or the name of your farm. Data will be analyzed in aggregate only.

  • Impartiality: Your responses will be treated confidentially and will only be shared with the independent Cirrus Survey Warehouse team appointed for this assessment.

A Crucial Warning: If you do not participate, your farm’s economic data will be excluded from the official assessment of risk. Do not let your economic reality be ignored.

From livestock to livelihoods: Bonsmara cattle grazing in the Kalahari Basin are a vital part of the regional food economy. This valuable agricultural activity, dependent on the aquifer, is the economic reality that must be quantified in the Cirrus survey. We must ensure the risk to all sectors is officially assessed.
